Wallace criticized

I attended the February town hall meeting hosted by state Reps. Jim Dunn, R-Vancouver, and Deb Wallace, D-Vancouver. The first thing Wallace told the gathering was that her No. 1 issue is accountability. She was referring to budgetary matters, not matters of a personal nature.

Several people attending the meeting spoke in favor of abstinence education in public schools. Others supported a requirement that a parent be notified before his or her minor child were to undergo an abortion.

Many of us are quite concerned with girls in middle school (ages 11-14) being sexually exploited, often without a parent's knowledge. For the sake of young girls, who are more likely than an adult to be coerced into an abortion, that kind of situation should not be covered up.

Wallace made it clear that her opposition to parental notification regarding a minor's abortion is unwavering. Also, she pushed for complete safe-sex and how-to sex education for youth. But she is unconcerned that a bill she co-sponsored, HB 1282, would severely limit local abstinence education programs that have been successful. Maybe encouraging accountability among Washingtonians in personal matters is not her No. 1 issue.

Faith based institutions would have been required to hire those who don't hold to the tenets of the faith

LifePac Editorial, October 2004

HB 1809 proposed in 2003 and 2004, would have expanded Washington's
discrimination clause to include sexual orientation, and include all
workplaces. Under HB 1809, churches, synagogues, religious prechools, and
private schools that do not believe that homosexual or other sexual
practices are consistent with their faith could be forced by the State to
hire those who disagree with their beliefs. In addition, faith-based
employers could be subject to lawsuits if an individual with sexual
orientation differing from the tenets of their faith were terminated. In the
past, exemptions were made for religious institutions.
House Vote 59 for 39 against 2003 and 2004. It did not pass the Senate.
State Representative Jim Moeller (49th) was a sponsor of the bill and voted
for it .
Representatives
Deb Wallace (17th) and Bill Fromhold(49th) also voted for it (HB 1809 Roll Call Votes).

June 8, 2004 - Excerpts from an emailing from the Deb Wallace Campaign:

Please join Washington State Representative Deb Wallace and other local elected women and candidates on Wednesday June 9th at 7:00 pm at Deb's house .... when she hosts
Linda Mitchell, Co-Chair of Washington State
Women’s Political Caucus
to talk about engaging women in the political process.

What is the Women’s Political Caucus?  Why would Deb Wallace want to start a chapter here in Clark County?

The purpose of the Women's Political Caucus (WPC) is to increase women's participation in the political process and to identify, recruit, train and support pro-choice women for election and appointment to public office. While in pursuit of this goal, NWPC will strive to win equality for all women: to ensure reproductive freedom, to achieve quality dependent care, and to eradicate sexism, racism, ageism, ableism, violence, poverty, and discrimination on the basis of religion or sexual orientation.

Deb Wallace has a 100% Approval Rating from Planned Parenthood and is endorsed by the National Abortion Rights Action League.
