A Letter From Mr. Gaylor
Letter to LifePac
Rather than complete the questionnaire, I would prefer to give my views and
welcome people to my website or
to call or email with specific questions.
I can best explain my views on family related issues by sharing an epiphany I
had in the spring of 1960 as I was walking across the campus of Clark College.
It dawned on me that as I worked to get my education, I could look forward to a
good career and probably accumulate sufficient wealth to have a comfortable
life, but the real contribution I could make to society was to have a family and
by doing a great job of that, I could really leave a heritage. If that can be
the basis for judging my contribution to society, I would say that my wife of 43
years have had a roaring success.
We raised four children in the Vancouver area; getting them all though college
and now enjoy seven lovely grandkids. While they are always our children, the
relationship has grown to also be our friends.
Our first grand children (twins) were born nearly 3 months premature, with one
of them surviving only 5 days. Her sister survives to day and while she has a
learning disability, she is an absolute treasure, as are the other six typically
developing children.
This heart breaking experience taught me the value of human life. I cannot
understand abortion except in extreme life threatening circumstances.
I also firmly believe in the key to successful families is a strong moral
development that can only come from a strong commitment to family life and
modeling for our kids as they grow to maturity. This tradition is being carried
on by my three sons, each of whom have a family and demonstrate strong family
values through their church, their involvement with their children as coaches,
scout masters and school performance. My daughter displays the same family
values but has no children yet.
I am currently President and CEO of a large nonprofit (Innovative Services NW)
in the Vancouver area that provides services to children with developmental
delays as well as a day care center for low income kids. Through the work we do
at the agency (Vancouver Children’s Therapy Center, Kids Care day care center),
our two agencies that provide employment support to adults with developmental
delays (Encore Employment Services and Encore Janitorial services), and Caring
Connections, our agencies that aid in family reunification, I see the value that
even these disadvantaged people bring to our community.
In carrying out this job, my wife and I believe so strongly in the work of this
agency that we donate 100% of my salary back to the agency.
In addition to these strong family values, I also bring 45 years of business
experience to city council and I believe I would add significantly to the
balance and accountability of council.
Education: Associates of Arts degree from Clark College 1960
Bachelor of Science Degree from Portland State University 1965
Masters of Business Administration from University of Portland 1980
