Republican seeking to win Baird's seat plans petition drive

Congressional candidate Michael Messmore already has the state GOP's blessing of his decision to challenge U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., in the fall general election campaign.He got that at the state convention in Yakima last month.
But the retired airline pilot, who lives in Toledo, entered the race too late to present himself to precinct, county and 3rd District Republican leaders.
