Two department employees seek office

A case can be made for each candidate for Clark County clerk. Republican Baine Wilson and Democrat Sherry Parker are respected employees of the department that Jo Anne McBride has led for 20 years, and each woman has ideas about how to make it better.

But after interviewing the candidates and sources in the legal community and reviewing the candidates' records, The Columbian editorial board endorses Wilson. Her managerial experience, enthusiasm, determination and ideas for improving the operation, such as making court records more accessible to the public, outweigh Parker's edge in clerk's-office experience.
