Senate Bill 5258 (Concerning members of the Washington council for the prevention of child abuse and neglect):

Introduced by Sen. Debbie Regala on January 15, 2007, to increase the membership of the Washington Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect from 13 to 14 members. The new position would consist of the director from the Department of Early Learning, or a designee for the director .

Senate Bill 5245 (Modifying foster children placement provisions):

Introduced by Sen. Jim Hargrove on January 15, 2007, to grant the Children’s Administration the authority to obtain a child’s health and education information. The bill also requires the Children’s Administration to provide the child’s health and education information at the time of placement. See companion HB 1287.

Senate Bill 5246 (Changing provisions affecting the placement of children):

Introduced by Sen. Jim Hargrove on January 15, 2007, to extend the list of relatives that may receive and care for a foster child. The list shall now include second cousins and relatives of any half-sibling. The bill also gives placement options to any person that has a pre-existing relationship with the child, as long as certain conditions are met. In either case, the bill requires a preference toward placement with a relative .

Senate Bill 5093 (Concerning access to health care services for children):

Introduced by Sen. Chris Marr on January 10, 2007, to repeal children’s health program statutes and replace them with a new initiative. Among other provisions, the new program requires the Department of Social and Health Services to design and administer a program to provide affordable health care coverage to children of low-income families. The bill also establishes a goal of improving children’s health through public schools by offering healthier food selections and increasing physical education by the year 2010. See companion HB 1071.

Senate Bill 5100 (Regarding health insurance information for students):

Introduced by Sen. Steve Hobbs on January 10, 2007, to force school districts to obtain whether a student has health insurance as part of the district’s enrollment process. If the student does not have health insurance, the school district is required to provide the student information on the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance program.

My Father Was an Anonymous Sperm Donor

I really wasn't expecting anything the day, earlier this year, when I sent an e-mail to a man whose name I had found on the Internet. I was looking for my father, and in some ways this man fit the bill. But I never thought I'd hit pay dirt on my first try. Then I got a reply -- with a picture attached.

From my computer screen, my own face seemed to stare back at me. And just like that, after 17 years, the missing piece of the puzzle snapped into place.

The puzzle of who I am.

I'm 18, and for most of my life, I haven't known half my origins. I didn't know where my nose or jaw came from, or my interest in foreign cultures. I obviously got my teeth and my penchant for corny jokes from my mother, along with my feminist perspective. But a whole other part of me was a mystery.
