City Council Invocation
This prayer is an adaptation of one taken from the Catholic Roman Missal

O God, who gave one origin to all peoples,

And wills to gather one family for Yourself,

Fill all hearts, we pray, with the fire of your love,

And kindle in us a desire for the just advancement of our neighbor.

Through the blessings which you richly bestow,

May each person be brought to perfection,

Every division removed,

And equity and justice be established in human society.

Bless this council tonight with fruitful deliberation,

For the benefit of the City of Washougal and the region.

In Your Holy Name we pray.  Amen

City Council Invocation

This prayer is an adaptation of Cardinal Cushing's invocation at
President Kennedy's Inauguration in 1961.

Today, we ask You, Oh God, to enlighten us:

That we may know as humans, our personal responsibilities;

That we may know, as Americans, our political, social and humanitarian responsibilities;

That we may know, as citizens of the world, our global responsibilities;

And that we may know, as children of God, our responsibilities to You;

By your grace, may we revere in everyone that divine spark which makes them our sibling;

That human spark which can make them our friend;

And that personal spark which makes them who they are.

Strengthen our resolve, oh Lord, to transform this recognition of others

 into the practice of cooperation.

In your Holy Name we pray.  Amen
