Camas parents defend school board, district’s anti-racism work
Speakers say vocal critics of Camas School District’s equity policy ‘do not represent majority of Camas parents’
Post Record, June 24, 2021

In the weeks following a heated May 10 Camas School Board meeting featuring a group of vocal Camas-area residents who railed against the school district’s “woke” agenda, COVID-19 mask mandates, remote learning and racial justice and equity programs, dozens of Camas parents have written letters and spoken out in defense of the school district and its elected school board officials.

The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian

News article: School district [not Camas] keeps explicit book in school, parents outraged

We've heard from two parents that ‘The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian’ is assigned reading for 7th graders at Liberty Middle School in Camas.  See below for examples of the objectionable sexual content of the book.  The news article link above gives further examples.  See also https://www.cultofpedagogy.com/.../the-absolutely-true.../

FRUSTRATED PARENTS SPEAK BOLDLY AT MONDAY’S CAMAS SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Lacamas Magazine, May 11, 2021

Camas, WA — Monday’s first in-person Camas School Board meeting in more than a year got very pointed and personal during the public comments section time. Parents emphasized in very clear words their distrust and frustration in how the school board is handling the pandemic at every stage: from remote learning to reopening, face mask usage, as well as a push to drive critical race theory and equity programs into the schools stating its flaming the fans of racism.

A Camas Mom talks about her experience opting her son out of CSE in the Camas School District.
Parents' Rights In Education
MY EXPERIENCE WITH OPTING OUT...

"I was never notified in any format that my 6th grader would be participating in a sex ed program beginning the week after spring break. My son came home the Thursday prior to spring break to inform me of this. I went on the Camas district office website and found out that opting out was not so easy. After parents view the aids/hiv portion of the program they can fill out a request to opt our kids out. (That does not mean it will be approved.) I called the district office who forwarded me to the school my son attends, Skyridge Middle School in Camas WA to ask about the opt out form.

Parents Rights In Education

I attended this to get an idea of what is going on in our school district. They are encouraging all district employees to use their preferred pronouns after all communications (he/him, she/her, they/them). They are hoping to push many of these ideas down to the elementary level. The school board equity rules allows any child who identifies as a different gender to use the bathrooms, locker rooms, I think even sports participation can be based on gender preferences. I'm homeschooling my elementary and middle school kids this year but when my daughter, who is in 10th grade and attending our school district's online only school, overheard me discussing the pronouns use, she told me her teachers are doing that after their names in their emails to her. I don't believe many parents are aware this is happening. There is definitely an agenda being pushed. I don't know yet what the implementation of this is in every school or age level but there are definitely those who hope to get it to all of them. Parents need to pay attention and not be afraid to speak up. Don't let the pressure of political correctness keep you from voicing your concerns if you have them.

Camas School District implements new equity policy
Post Record, June 6, 2019

A mother’s heartbreak. A child’s anger. Eventually, a call for change.
Dauda Woodruff’s life was altered after he discovered a photo of himself posted on the OfferUp app in 2017, during his freshman year at Camas High School.
“Field hand for sale,” the post read. “Needs some whipping sometimes, but has a strong back. Will make a great slave.”
Those words shocked Woodruff, who was born and grew up in Sierra Leone, Africa, before being adopted by Darren and Chrissie Woodruff, of Camas, in 2015.
