"I
believe pre-born Americans have a right to life. Abortion is
not an issue of privacy because it involves one person taking
the life, and the other losing it. Neither is it a private act
between two people because one of them has not given consent to
die. If Roe v. Wade can not be overturned, a compromise will
have to be found that makes progress in reducing the number of
aborted babies every year. After all, saving babies is the
primary goal, even if it means only 500,000 killed per year
instead of 1,700,000.
"The anti-slavery
foundation of the Republican Party remains alive in the Pro-Life
mission. The principle that no one should own another person,
or be counted as 3/5ths of a person (Roe's 24-week viability
designation is 3/5ths of the total 40-week gestation ) has
been the hallmark of all American emancipation movements.
Abortion is an ancient and barbaric act that should not have a
place in our enlightened and modern society. If we Americans
are to wear the mantle of freedom and equality in the world, the
abortion issue is the Modern Emancipation of our time that will
have to be resolved."
