2013 Survey Response:

Dear Life-Pac.org,

A freeholder does not change or establish policy.  If elected, I will be one of fifteen to contribute a voice when drafting a charter/constitution for Clark County that will, eventually, be presented to the voters.

I am interested in representing the citizens.  I am interested in hearing your opinions and learning why you believe as you do.   Do not expect me to argue but I may ask questions.

Your questions, I believe are designed to learn more about me.  I hope this alternative suits your purpose.  I am dedicated to running this campaign without financial contributions (my own or others) and to remain authentically me.

In 1992, a month before I turned 19, I bought a home pregnancy test and a bottle of pre-natal vitamins from the Hi-School Pharmacy in Battle Ground.  I took the test before my shift at Papa Aldo’s and I had to have a co-worker help identify the faint mark indicating a “positive”.  I scheduled an appointment with the Crisis Pregnancy Center -then located off of Fourth Plain, Blvd.  The councilor/volunteer showed me the positive sign on the test that I had taken there and said that it was possible to have a false positive but she hadn’t seen it happen.

The next day I told my mom. I remember that she took me on a drive explaining my options.  I don’t remember if abortion was mentioned.  I told Ellen’s (my daughter) dad later that day and could almost hear him think:  “How am I going to get out of this one.”

I promised myself that I would spend 24 hours meditating on each course of action available to me, this included abortion.  At the time, I could conceptualize killing myself but not killing someone else.  This helped reveal to me when I think life begins.

I was consistently below the poverty line as a single parent and I have experienced violence.  As a massage therapist, I am very aware of the exploitation that occurs under the guise of my profession.  I have ran across a few despicable possibly soulless humans and prayed to not wish them obliterated.

I have also seen people worse-off than poor, communities come together for a common purpose, acts of kindness committed with no reciprocal expectations, and miraculous transformations of the human kind.

It is essential for me to have a daily interactive relationship with God.  Of my core beliefs, I keep in mind, God is bigger than religion, I don’t get extra points for getting closer to temptation before I resist it, and how I believe is not how anyone else believes, even if they are sitting in the same pew.

Thank you,

Alice Williams
